Designated Aboriginal Position

Parks Victoria's vision is to be a world-class parks service, ensuring healthy parks for healthy people. It is a statutory authority with responsibility for managing an expanding and diverse estate covering more than 4 million hectares, or about 17 per cent, of Victoria.

The Regional Aboriginal Heritage Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of delivery of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage function within Parks Victoria's Northern Region. This includes delivery planning, financial and resource management (human resources, facilities, assets, systems and staff training and development) in accordance with Parks Victoria's policies, procedures and objectives. The position includes responsibility for coordinating a service which is adaptable, flexible and responsive to community needs and key stakeholder expectations.

Your responsibilities will include:

Provide advice on legislative requirements of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006
Provide expert advice and guidance on the protection and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage
Advise and assist staff in the Northern Region with the establishment and implementation of Connection to Country projects (including Naming Country, Trail rider initiative, Celebrating Country)
To be successful in this role you will have:

Demonstrated high level judgement experience in analytical problem solving and decision making.
Demonstrated experience in working with Traditional Owner groups and in Aboriginal Cultural Management
Demonstrated experience in provision on expert and technical advice and support.
A current Victorian driver's licence.
Tertiary qualification in Science (Cultural Heritage Management, Archaeology) or equivalent is desirable.
Parks Victoria requires all prospective employees to undergo a National Police Record Check prior to an employment offer being made.
