Dear Ozarchers,

Your valued help is ALWAYS appreciated.

Can anybody please tell me if Gary (or anyone else) has ever yet made any progress on the perceived problem of the arguably over-zealous editor RandyKitty in Wikipedia?

This is one RandyKitty I have been totally unable to get anywhere with ..... not even to touch bases with thus far.

Without re-reading in details .. I recall that the worst of the troubles currently with Wikipedia entry (or non-entry) for "Bungaroo" resulted from a concoction of actions by RandyKitty and Giant Snowman, which even if well-meaning at the time now unfortunately block all attempted progress/improvement in Wikipedia for BUNGAROO.

For you cannot even start a Wikipedia entry totally afresh, from scratch, if it be the same name/word as an entry previously deleted from Wikipedia.

If anyone needs refreshing on the significance of Bungaroo (it really is quite significant) ...... it is thought (of course this cannot be dead certain... ) that they:

* Hid their tents there one night after camping where salt water (of what's now called Middle Harbour) met fresh .. and then bright eyed and busy-tailed (even though the shoes of some were wearing out) set off early in the morn to push even further west .. this being to explore for good land of better growing capability than the Hawkesbury Sandstone soil of Sydney Cove .....

*  They pushed uphill for quite a time and then crossed flattish land at what is now Mona Vale Road about where a giant Angophora costata  now stands (a little south of Browns Forest or Hay-Dalrymple patch of high trees, which is now the greatest remnant of High Forest, blue gums etc., left in Sydney's northern suburbs ....

*  And then continuing west they must somewhere have hit the edge of the 'escarpment' that the now-train-line runs along .. perhaps, let's imagine, at Hillview near Turramurra Railway Station (?) .. or somewhere else north from Pymble  [Old illustrations show the Mountains once were clearly visible from Hillview - but the view is now blocked out).

*   And there (wherever they did strike the escarpment edge) they SAW THE BLUE MOUNTAINS ... this being the first time any European had done so .. (Did they have a telescope on that trip?).

And who were this "they"?

They were Captain/Admiral/Governor Arthur Philip and some mates of his like Surgeon White ... and of course with essential Convicts to do the carrying.

And some say Bungaroo is the only place around Sydney written about by the whites in 1788 which is still undeveloped, and in its "original state" (albeit that even there one can find a giant pipeline carrying water or something and crossing the creek).

So it is beyond doubt an important place .. but it was clumsily put into Wikipedia originally .. whence RandyKitty deleted it thinking there was nothing particularly special about some place where fresh water fell over rock into salty water !??

Of course there do no doubt exist proceedures in Wikipedia for doing anything/everything .. even restoring a deleted entity.

But it is all proving too much for my small brain that is no longer as young as it used to be, whence I am seeking the help at present of a "retired museum natural scientist" named Nick.(as below) .... but also from anyone else with advanced Wikipedic skills.

Other big news of late (for me) is that I also got a small grant ($50) form Council to assist carrying on in this area of Garigal-St Ives ...... plus got another $50 one for carrying on around Homebush Bay .. so there is food on the table tonight.

Silcrete and the "original Blacks Town" is of course still now forgotten either by me.  And I indeed still plod on with "The History of Plumpton Ridge".  Yet all that is EXTREMELY slow to get anywhere much as nobody at all who lived there in the past has been findable yet (with but one sole exception - a Mr Gale).   Sadly the integrity of the heritage nominated Aboriginal silcrete "quarry" on top of Plumpton Ridge [it sits almost directly opposite the big white mosque on Richmond Road] is now most CRITICALLY ENDANGED on account of the new dense urban housing creeping up the hill towards it --- but I have been so far totally unable to find anyone else interested in that fact.

Cheers,

John

== Hargraves the gold finder in particular ~ but on getting help more generally ==

Hello Nick..

Nice to meet you. You left a message for me: "Hi - I see you left a cry for help on the Talk page of Edward Hargreaves. I'm a retired museum natural scientist, so appreciate your interest. Adding references on Wikipedia can be complicated, but is really important to master. As you've seen, folk get a bit upset if they see new content being added with nothing to demonstrate its from reliable sources. If you aren't aware of the easy-to-use 'Cite' button in the editing window, do please look for it. Are you using the visual editor, or are you going via the tab 'Edit Sources'? Either way, although they're in different places on either screen, this lets you get a drop-down list of 'cite templates' for books, website, periodicals etc, to fill in with all the content you included in the talk page of Edward Hargreaves. There are slower ways of manually adding <ref> tags, but this can be quite off-putting. (I think I was editing for about a year before I realised it existed!). Let me know how you get on, of go here to ask further questions at WP:TEAHOUSE. There's also a long set of overly-intricate guidelines at WP:CITE. Regards from the UK. Nick Moyes (talk) 15:03, 23 June 2017 (UTC)" .... Previously someone "Oshwah" deleted an addition there for not providing source, saying "I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:18, 23 June 2017 (UTC)". I have tried hard to contact "Oshwah" .. and have sent and discussed the source etc. but unable to contact him. It's all most complicated and I would like to discuss things (as this is just one of other similar cases of never being able to contact people who delete things) by email which is much simpler and more direct. I am John Byrnes a geologist and write at a wordpress blog https://someinterestingsites.wordpress.com and many other places; and am contactable at john dot mail at ozemail dot com do au in Sydney Australia. One other Wikipedia entry of much concern is BUNGAROO which is a VERY historic site near Sydney but which (poorly done) Wikipedia entry got removed, I think by someone called RandyKitty or Giant Snowman and "parked" at records of the creating user -- which identity is perhaps now defunct and unattended. Wikipedia procedures to get all that undone and entry back in the main Wikipedia are no doubt complex ... ? .... and so far beyond me .. Yet without that the entry cannot be improved to make if acceptable to Wikipedia standards .. is this Catch 22? Thanks, John

Goodness.. thanks !!

Re-created today by Gary Vines.. from scratch.

And it ALL happened today.

How did you do that .. as I was getting message that one cannot create afresh an entry that had once existed but had been deleted ?

This is fine and now can be carried on with.

Cheers, John
