permission denied accessing mounted folders

Hello - i installed both fuse and sshfs on OS X capitan. Mounting a ubuntu box via sshfs works, however even if I mount a root access, access to some folders on the ubuntu box is blocked ("folder ... can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents").

If I access the box just using ssh I have no issues whatsoever accessing folders or files.

What am I missing? Thanks in advance for your help!
