Why does the GratefulDeadConcerts database work in distributed mode and my database not?

I have a Orient 2.0.8 running in distributed mode using TCP Hazlecast (not multicast) but cannot connect to it via console; giving me an error of:

Reason: java.io.EOFException[Could not read protocol type!] [TCP Connection]

When I attempt to connect to the database already bundled with Orientdb, I can connect.

What am I not seeing?
