While it is convenient that the psychs and the lawyers will claim he
is crazy. The fact is that he is just proud of his accomplishment.
I'm so tried of the crazy excuse being used. These people kill others
because they want to for whatever reason. Of course, once caught they
will tell the shrinks I heard voices or the devil made me do it or
mommy didn't wipe my chin after dinner so the psych will go into court
and claim 'He is crazy and not responsible'.
IOW, Psychologist and Chiropractors use the same science. 100% BS.

This guy is 100% sane and knew exactly what he was doing. You can
always tell if a person is sane when they make a plan and execute it.
Which this killer did with great precision.

Well Batshit Crazy as slang is normal for people talking about a
situation like this. The problem occurs when a psych goes into court
and says the killer is not responsible because he is insane. I just
watched a Psych on a TV news show make diagnosis of this guy based on
no real evidence at all. He talked about the guys Facebook page,
however the Facebook page was made up by someone after the shooting
occurred. But yet this psych knew the shooter was insane because of
what he read on the *shooters* Facebook page.

As Gregg said in this thread, to just use the excuse that he is crazy will be a
cop out. He planned and meticulously carried out his threat, making YouTube
videos and such. Not like this guy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOTDn2A7hcY

Many years ago, when I was living in a city, I returned from a camping vacation
in the middle of nowhere. It was a shock just driving back to the city and
trying to find a place to park. But when I got out, the local crazy person (who
was black and who I had seen before) came down the street screaming 'I'm gonna
kill me some motherfucking white people' then walked up to me and said 'starting
with you, fag boy.' I looked him in the eye and asked if he was the welcoming
committee. He started laughing uproariously and walked off. I'd rather deal with
mad than crazy any day of the week though. Crazy can be unpredictable. That is
exactly where I would question Uncle Fester being crazy. He planned this as
though it was meant to happen, not just flying off the handle and doing it. He
should fry regardless.

How do you know this? Because he said Allu Akhbar? And how does that make one a
terrorist and the other not? Terrorism isn't unique to Islamoextremists. There
have been plenty of cases of domestic terrorism over the years. This fits the
mold to a T.

So following your logic, someone who yells "God help me" or "God is great"
before shooting a bunch of people did it in God's name? Pretty poor logic. To
me, both are terrorists. Both carefully planned to kill people without remorse.
Regardless of partisanship, regardless of religion. Loughner should be treated
as a terrorist. To let him off with therapy simply because 'he is batshit crazy'
would be the wrong move IMHO.

>Loughner was largely unaffiliated with anything.

I don't think enough information about Loughner has been released to make such a
bold statement. Yeah, he had a strange taste in books, was a registered
independent who hadn't voted recently, hated that abortions were legal to name
just a few things that I read about him. And his target seemed to be a Democrat
with no regards for the others in his path. What does that make him? The Left
says a Tea Partier, the Right says a Leftist. I say neither. There has been an
awful lot of hearsay from people claiming to know him. Most of them said they
saw this coming. But he seemed to be sane enough to be let off by the polics
with just a warning when he ran a red light the morning of the shooting. So what
exactly was his motive? Since he isn't talking, we just have to wait and see
what they find from emails, credit card purchases, net surfing and other methods
of discovery.

One last thing. I disagree that guns are the problem here. The access to guns
are part of the problem. For every one nut case that can get his hands on a
weapon, there are hundreds if not thousands that practice good gun ownership. We
really need a better process to filter out the nut jobs and terrorists and keep
them from purchasing such. But if this guy could fool the cops on the morning he
committed the heinous crime, he could probably fool a gun seller. It's not so
easy.

So why did you add a newsgroup to this thread?

That's one clue, and here's another:

http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2009/11/major-muslims-
calling-card-soa-soldier-of-allah.html

Here is the card that major Muslim Nidal Hasan gave to the infidels along
with a quran before meeting his 72 raisins.

Could this lowlife jihadi be any more devout? He mosqued every day. Hated
America, hated the troops, proselytized his co-workers, planned his jihad
and completed his mission. His head was shaved. What else was shaved? If
his body was shaved like his head, then the military guys and law
enforcement know and have known that this was jihad, and they are
scamming us now.

Now look at the card. Notice the SoA on the card? Soldiers of Allah.
Followed by SWT, an abbreviation that usually follows the word Allah.
(hat tip Robert)

When writing the name of God (Allah), Muslims often follow it with the
abbreviation "SWT." These letters stand for the Arabic words "Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala," or "Glory to Him, the Exalted." Muslims use these or similar
words to glorify God when mentioning His name.

Ah, Lobby, you disappoint. Hasan's attack had political content and was carried
out on government property but shooting a politician doesn't? The politician is
in effect, government property and the political angle is an obvious one.
Following your logic, shooting the POTUS would not be terrorism unless it was
done on government property. Hasan didn't seem to have a target per se and
Loughner definitely did.

I suppose that intent is a key characteristic of determining whether such an act
constitutes terrorism or not. The meaning of the word implies to bring fear
(terrorize). Both acts accomplished that. I'm still not convinced that Hasan
planned his attack as well as Loughner though. Loughner seemed meticulous. Hasan
on the outside seemed that he shot up the place out of serious frustration that
he didn't want to re-deployed to Muslim land. I could foresee someone yelling
"God is great" if they knew what they were doing was going to send them to their
maker. But it also seems he sought advice from some pretty dubious sources. I
stay with my belief that both committed acts of terrorism.

A better debate might be terrorism or attempted assassination?

And Loughner's primary target was apolitical. Had there been political
content, she would have taken more than one round. Curiously, had he
concentrated on his primary target there might have been fewer collateral
deaths and injuries.

And a person is decidedly Not government property.

I like that one.

Toss in JFK, the CIA and exploding pens to Castro.

You might have a real stemwinder going there.

Was there a grassy knoll nearby? Perhapy we could build a conspiracy museum on
the spot.

Capital idea!

And we could hand out "Oswald Marksman" badges at the shooting arcade.
