Hi,

I was wondering whether it makes sense to model a production
scheduling problem with changeover times using CP and especially the
Google CP solver.

I have already tried modelling this problem using AIMMS, but was not
succesfull - the computation time was too long when using an MIP
formulation and a CPLEX solver. In my model, I consider 5 production
plants, over 56 jobs and over 100 different changeover times when
switching from one job to another. The program should then generate a
schedule for each plant that satisfies deadline constraints as well as
minimzes the production span.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of problems - any help
and tips would be appreciated!

BTW, Does the Google CP solver have an IDE?

Many Thanks!

Best,
Andrei

Hello,

I believe CP would be a better tool.
Could you send me a complete description of the model with some (fake
and realistic data), I will give it a shot.

Concerning the IDE, I am convinced python + a python editor like
eclipse to be a better offering than any modeler.
