chipkit-vagrant flashing

Hi guys,

Used to build and flash my chipkit VI without any issue using Cygwin, now I have updated to vagrant and can compile the firmware successfully but the "PLATFORM=CHIPKIT make flash" command doesn't work, I've tried with SERIAL_PORT=com4 (that is my COM port in W7 device manager) without success, I'm not familiar with linux and I'm not sure if I have to configure something or install a driver in the VM, I have enabled the USB and COM1/2 ports in the Virtual box Settings but doesn't work. The driver is already installed on W7/64

do you guys have any idea or advice about how to get it working?

is it possible to get an old version of the vi-firmware folder? I tried to configure again the Cygwin version and now all is not working, why the change to vagrant? all was perfect before :s

Hi Lucas,

You might want to try flashing outside of the Vagrant VM. The virtual machine probably isn't configured to pass the Arduino COM port through.  Why the switch to Vagrant? It's much easier for us to manage a consistent build environment this way, otherwise I found there are a thousand different system configurations and everyone needs individualized help. All of the build steps still work fine from a Cygwin environment, it's just not the officially recommended method anymore. If you want to run the build and flashing from Cygwin, it should work just fine, you are just a bit more on your own with regard to support.

I'm using the windows terminal for chipkit VI flashing in the meanwhile and is working great again, I'll look for more information on internet about the COM port configuration in the virtual machine.

See this thread for some info setting up Virtual Box to use the USB port. It was for python, not flashing, but should be similar.
