Hello,

Does anyone know which information related electric vehicle will be accessed through OpenXC? The following is a list of some basic messages.

High-Voltage Battery SOC
High-Voltage Battery Voltage
High-Voltage Battery Current
Motor AC 3-Phase Voltage
Motor AC 3-Phase Current
Motor AC 3-Phase Power
Motor shaft speed
Motor shaft torque

For Ford vehicles, there are no EV signals available to the public just yet. The more interest we see in exposing that data, the more likely we'll be able to open it up in the future.

I have a Ford C-Max hybrid and am looking to do the Ford Challenge App, but would like to be able to access additional EV/hybrid information.

Any progress on exposing that data this year?

Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,

At the moment, we are still exploring this idea and which signals to expose. Is there a specific set of signals that you would like to see?

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave,

I’ve been thinking about what signals would be most helpful and here’s what I have come up with presently.

1.       Power (kW) drawn (or being returned) from the battery

2.       Power (kW) entering the electric motor(s) (leaving for regeneration)

3.       Torque from the electric motors at transmission (similar to from the ICE)

4.       Battery charge state – either the percentage that is used for the battery display or estimated Wh remaining

5.       Energy into the vehicle (for plug-ins/EV)

6.       Temperature – engine and possibly battery temperature

7.       Outside air temperature

Thanks for considering these requested sensor information.

-Jon

Hi All,

Has there been any progress on this end? I noticed in testing out Type 5 firmware with a Focus Electric that the "fuel level" and "fuel consumed since restart" data fields show up, but they all stay zero. At very least state of charge would be very helpful, and generally I'd echo the feedback others have provided on this thread. Seems like signals related to hybrid, PHEV, and BEV vehicles will be increasingly important given Ford's strong electrification strategy...

Also, using firmware with custom diagnostic messages (e.g. fuel level, vehicle speed, etc. per attached JSON firmware configuration) works with all ICE vehicles I've tested, but failed on a Prius and the Focus Electric. Some messages shouldn't be dependent on powertrain (e.g. "vehicle speed", and some like "hybrid battery remaining life" seem to be ideal for at least hybrids), so is there a reason my firmware seems to fail with vehicles that have some level of electrification? Granted, my sample size is fairly small (ICE: Focus, Fiesta, Escape, Saturn Ion, BMW X5; HEV: Prius; BEV: Focus Electric)...

Best,

Dominic
