Hello OTP users and developers,

I am pleased to announce that the first OTP 2.0 release candidate is available. OTP2 has a completely rewritten transit routing engine, yielding a major increase in performance, scalability, and variety of itineraries over OTP1. It also has other important new features like the ability to read EU-standard NeTEx transit data and SIRI realtime.

The OTP2 release candidate branch is in feature freeze and undergoing final testing and cleanup for a planned 2.0 release before December 2020. It is already in production use for certain subsets of requests on Entur’s Norwegian national trip planner.

We need your help testing out and finalizing this release! Please grab a copy of OTP2-RC1, try it out with your local data sets, and report any bugs or other problems you encounter.

The documentation for 2.0 release candidates will be progressively updated in response to your feedback, and is available at:

Many documentation pages have been updated, but some good starting points for testing out OTP2 are:

Notably, the Basic Tutorial has been revised and will show you how to download OTP2-RC1 and get it running. If you want to dive into the source code, it’s in the branch 2.0-rc on Github. Please let us know if you run into any roadblocks or are missing any necessary information, and we’ll update the documentation.

We look forward to your feedback, and to providing you with a final OTP 2.0 release in the coming months!

Thanks,
Andrew
