Hi,
We have a DB with thousands of SQL queries which can be combined in any form to fire chains of rules. These queries are hundreds of lines long. It appears that the team is using the DB as a rules engine.

The DB load cause severe performance issues.

Is there a particular approach that the forum recommends to refactor this using Openrules ? Is this a viable approach ? Eventually we might have to
use the Java web application layer instead of the DB to store and fire rules.

Thanks.

Mohan,

It is certainly a viable approach to use OpenRules instead of large SQL queries especially if they "are combined in any form to fire chains of rules". You may replace them with decisions defined using inter-connected decision tables that should look intuitive even to non-programmers. They should be more business oriented to provide solutions to certain business decisions. You may want to create a prototype project that replaces a few complex queries. If you need a concrete advise feel free to send us your project.
Good luck,
