Hi all

I am using the HSP API to check the performance of trains between 2 stations unfortunately the API is not returning the correct number of journeys for a given day.

This only seems to be the case between LDS and HOW so far

For example using the request

{'days': 'WEEKDAY', 'to_time': '2359', 'from_time': '0001', 'to_date': '2017-12-01', 'from_loc': 'LDS', 'from_date': '2017-12-01', 'to_loc': 'HOW'}

The HSP API returns 0 trains when in reality there were 4 direct trains on that day.

{"header":{"from_location":"LDS","to_location":"HOW"},"Services":[]}

Is anyone out there able to tell me how to get this fixed?

Hi Ian

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but if you use Leeds to Selby (SBY), do you get results?

Hi Peter

Yes, Leeds to Selby works as expected.

Hi Ian

In which case, it's probably not a bug, and here's why.

Howden station doesn't have the necessary facilities (track circuits, axle counters or mass detectors to name a few) to allow automatic movement reports.  In this case, unless a train has on-board GPS set up to report movements, the arrival and departure times at Howden will always be missing.

If you look at the 1744 Kings Cross - Beverley, it has no arrival or departure time at Howden, whereas the 2030 Hull - York (a GPS-fitted train) has both an arrival and departure time.

Unfortunately, this means you'll only see some trains at Howden in HSP.

I'm not sure what could be done about no arrival times for destination locations - if you don't know if the train was on-time or not, saying "Unknown" might be better than just excluding the train entirely.

Slight correction, Howden does have track circuits, it's part of Selby (West) signal box. However there's no berths once you leave the ECML, Doncaster and York have them, nothing east of there does.
