Hi Rob

I’ve worked with the file before and I haven’t seen gradients in there - although I wasn’t looking for any.

Speed limits are probably in there - there are certainly speed markers in kph, and distances you may be able to calculate - although there are ‘erratic kilometerages’ where the measurements down a line jump.

Unfortunately, the XSD is rather weak and seems to be auto-generated from code, missing out a lot of comments.  It’s an artefact produced by TPS which has been made open, rather than an actual ‘product’ as such.

Hi All,

I had a quick query about the 'Train Planning Network Model' which is accesible at the bottom of this page: http://nrodwiki.rockshore.net/index.php/Reference_Data. Download link: http://datafeeds.networkrail.co.uk/ntrod/SupportingFileAuthenticate?type=TPS.

We have been trying to find out more information about this large XML file to see if it is suitable for building an accurate model of the network. Does anyone know if there is any further information available that explains the fields in the associated Schema file? (which can be accessed here: http://nrodwiki.rockshore.net/images/b/b4/TPS_Schema.xsd.gz).

It seems that the majority of the XML file covers stations, nodes, blocks, edges and signals. There are also a number of things in the Schema that are not in the XML.

Does anyone know if this file is useful for building a model of the network with accurate gradients, speed limits and distances?

Many Thanks,
