I don't seem to have received TD messages for Porchester for the following train:
15:32 Victoria to Southampton (today)

Can someone confirm if this is just me, or are others also missing those messages?

Thanks,

Martin

Aha, no worries.

On that one I personally have no idea :-) I didn’t think Portchester reported through TRUST though – Cosham then Fareham?

Correct, scheduled to travel Cosham, Porchester, Fareham

Cosham [CSA]

Scheduled arrival: 1726 departure: 1727 Actual arrival: 1759 departure: 1759

-> Nothing for Porchester

Fareham [FRM]

Scheduled arrival: 1736 departure: 1737 Actual arrival: 1808 departure: N/A

Train was cancelled at Fareham

Why would Porchester not be reported through TRUST ? Are there many other stations that are excluded ?

TRUST doesn’t report everywhere. Someone will be able to provide an exact list of where and when – but in a broad general summary, it tends to be major stations, termini, stations with junctions, most junctions themselves and delay reporting points (e.g. Vauxhall and Weybridge will report despite not being in the schedule for trains on the fast line Waterloo to Woking). I’d estimate there are around 500-600 stations at least where TRUST doesn’t report as a matter of course.

TRUST itself is used more as an operational system rather than an information system (although it does drive them) so doesn’t need to report everywhere for that purpose.  To get around that issue, you can use other sources such as the TD. TRUST is effectively, for automatic reports, a processed version of TD passing through the SMART dataset and you could replicate that functionality yourself – I do it myself for Realtime Trains and get nearly to the second granularity. There are other ways of doing it, such as using Darwin – it all really depends on your needs.

5-600? That’s about 20% of stations. Is that right? Wouldn’t that mean the TM feed is virtually useless?

Could someone confirm those figures and the list of stations please? Probably worth specifying that on the wiki too ...

I can’t validate that figure, but the list of STANOXes that TRUST will report for is in the SMART ‘All Berth Steps’ data which you can download.

This is from an old database but I make it 430 stations that are not in trust.

As for the TM feed being useless, it does depend on where you are on how many stations are missed out. For example in the London area most are included but on my home line (Maidstone East) several stations are missed out.

For example, Otford is not in Trust but Otford Junction is, about 1/4 a mile to the south of the station.

From there towards ashford its patchy. Kemsing isn't, Borough Green is then nothing until MDE then all stations to Ashford Intl.

It does tend to match where the TD berths are. Not all berths map to a station. In fact some berths can cover several stations. When I did the MDE Signal Map I know I've not got every station in the right place - East & West Malling seem to fit into this senario: http://uktra.in/signal/map/MA
