I installed OpenMeetings a machine with OpenSuse, the 2688 version
worked well, but the 2905 version does not.

After following all the steps, trying to enter http://localhost:5080/install
nothing appears.

And the log displays the following messages:

hi,

which Installation Document do you refer to? Install or build from source?
The usual url to install would be:
http://localhost:5080/openmeetings/install

when you install any binary release.

I didnt understand... In the older version I used http://localhost:5080/install
and worked, but not in this version.

Why in version 2905 the path is http://localhost:5080/openmeetings/install
?

thanks for your help!!!

that is a little bit too less to say anything about the Issue you
might be running into.

Lets try it just from scratch, as its really very easy:

Download the zip from
http://openmeetings.googlecode.com/files/openmeetings_1_1_r2905.zip
unpack it,
edit the hibernate.cfg.xml in
$UNZIPPED-OPNmeetings-Dir/webapps/openmeetings/conf.hibernate.cfg.xml
user/pass and db_name
and then start it using red5.bat (or red5.sh under linux or OSX)
and then open a browser and goto http://localhost:5080/openmeetings/install
=> follow the steps.

Thats it. If the final step does not success or you never reach the
end, then the database values of user/pass/db are wrong.

It worked! Thanks!

How do I configure SMTP?
My server is gmail (smtp.gmail.com) but is not working to send e-
mails.

My setup is as follows:
smtp_server: smtp.gmail.com
smtp_port: 25
system_email_addr: us...@gmail.com
email_username:
email_userpass:

Is that right?

Thank you for your attention and help!

I think gmail accounts do not work. They have some special tls enabled
or equal. You should use some of your local smtp-machines or send it
just through localhost.

Sebastian,

Had the same problem as Caroline - problems with r2905. Followed the
steps exactly, but when trying to run Red5.bat from the command
prompt, I am getting the error below. System is W2003 Server, latest
Java. Any ideas?

Thanks,

make sure you have JAVA_HOME set to a valid Sun Java 6 environment.
For example Java Sun JDK 6 which is for example available for Debian
via apt-get.

Thanks, Sebastian. It was pointing to the wrong place.

However, the install page still refused to go to STEP2. After many tries, I found out that the BOINC utility on that server was interfering with openmeetings. Disabling BOINC appears to have cleared the problem and we can now log in to the new version.

Is there a way to import the user list from the previous version?

Thanks again and all best,

I've tried to install red5-openmeetings_1.0.2760.noarch.deb on several
different Debian 5 systems without success. I've set up a clean Debian
install to do testing on and limit the number of variables. No Apache,
only Java 6, etc. I've found and corrected the problems causing
reported errors. The logging output from Red5 is somewhat obscure, but
nothing leaps out as an error.

One thing I've noticed is that none of the ports I'd expect to be opened
for listen as IPv4, but some ARE open for listening as IPv6 (like 1935,
5088 and 8088) I'm out of ideas about where to look or what diagnostic
data to collect. Can anyone help identify a direction to take?

hi,

there is no Issue with that. A valid outut of netstat on a functional
working server looks quite equal

netstat -ant
Aktive Internetverbindungen (Server und stehende Verbindungen)

Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State

tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:8100 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:3306 127.0.0.1:50148 VERBUNDEN

tcp6 0 0 :::1935 :::* LISTEN
tcp6 0 0 :::9999 :::* LISTEN
tcp6 0 0 :::80 :::* LISTEN
tcp6 0 0 :::22 :::* LISTEN
tcp6 0 0 :::8088 :::* LISTEN
tcp6 0 0 :::5080 :::* LISTEN

tcp6 0 0 :::8443 :::* LISTEN

So no problem on that side from my point of view.

I'm looking for suggestions on where to look for diagnostic information.

I'm trying to set up a small openmeetings server.  I'm having trouble getting started so I set up a clean base Debian 5.0 server to minimize the number of variables I'm chasing.  I don't really understand what's happening "behind the curtain" but I'm trying to learn.

I'm using the red5-openmeetings_1.0.2760.noarch.deb package.  The Debian repositories have dropped swftools for want of a maintainer. I couldn't resolve a libjpeg problem creating 0.9.0 from source so I used swftools_0.9.0-0ubuntu1_i386.deb which seems to work fine.

I thought a had a probelm with IPv4 ports not being bound, but Sebastian Wagner helped me learn there wasn't a problem (Thanks!)

It looks like next hurdle is MySQL related. I'm not finding the openmeeting database.  The user has been created, but no database has been.  When I try and run http://xx.xx.xx.xx:5080/openmeetings/install the console scrolls messages as fast as it can.  It alll seems related to this basic error:

        Caused by: java.sql.SQLException: No database selected

I haven't spotted the installation code that creates the database, or a log file that indicates what the original failure might have been.  I was going to create the database by hand, but I'm not sure of it's structure.

I'm also not seeing the behavior I expect with the red5 install. I get the index page and the installation page comes up and lets me select and install demos, but when I try and run them I get a 404 page that says "description The requested resource (/demos) is not available."  If I go back and try and reselect the demo for installation, I get the indication that it's already installed.

Here's a generous snippet of the loop of what I'm seeing when I try and connect:

I am not a Debian user, Fedora myself but, minimally you need to
follow the wiki installation notes. You need the binary distribution
for OM Debian which is on this site. You need FFMPEG, SOX, swftools,
OpenOffice installed and working. Once you have that install a
database it doesn't matter as several are support. In your case one
with a good GUI tool for creating a database. You have to create the
database yourself the code doesn't do it. Once created the code will
create all the tables and default data, But, you need a datbase to
begin with, openmeeting will do nothing without the database.

I would start with installing the database first create the user the
instruction say and then create the database.

Then install openmeetings and run it. You may even have to configure
the connection to the database depending on how you set it up.

Then come back to the forum and ask some questions. A fast way to get
ignored on the forum is to post question that don't make sense.

If by wiki notes you mean this:

http://code.google.com/p/openmeetings/wiki/InstallationDebian

Yes, I did. Unfortunately a lot of it points to rotten links and so I
had to seek alternative sources for things like swftools as I indicated
in my original note.

Which I used as indicated in my original note.

Yup, all there and appear to be working.

This is one of the links that's rotten, and why I indicated I used the
Ubuntu package.

And it is, or at least seems to be based on limited testing.

I don't understand what you are saying here. I've got MySQL installed
and it seems to be working correctly. Are you just saying that I can
use it or PostGres or whatever else will handle the queries?

I can manage the command line, but the problem I saw is that the script
created a user, but no database. I figured that the process had failed
and I'd need to create a database and the table structure as well.

This is a key piece of information I was missing, and specifically
asking for.

Okay, I'll do this

This is where I'm getting a disconnect and seeing a dearth of
information. I have MySQL installed and the script created a user, but
no database or tables.

Done, and where the substantial log data came from.

Well, I tried to ask a sensible question and provide enough information
to indicate what I had tried and where I was. It appears I didn't
provide enough detail.
