Seeking Installation Guide for Mac OS

I'm a java novice using Mavericks and attempting to install OpenJUMP.

After searching widely, I've come up with two install methods:

openjump-users › starting OpenJUMP on MacOSX

I have failed installing under Mac OS 10.9.3 with the following java version:

java version "1.6.0_65"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-466.1-11M4716)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-466.1, mixed mode)

Is there a guide for beginners that states the requirements and simple steps for OpenJUMP installation?

not to my knowledge.. OJ wiki is down at the moment, it would be the first stop to look. anyway, it's easy:
- download latest OJ-Installer-*.jar
- doubleclick it in Finder
- follow the instructions
- after finished install find OJ on your desktop
- you can move it to /Applications if preferred

alternatively use OJ portable
- download OJ-Portable-*.zip
- extract
- run OJ-Folder/bin/OpenJUMP (with icon) or OJ-Folder/bin/oj_macosx.command

I have OpenJUMP opening now after re-installing "Java for OS X 2014-001."

I still have a problem sorting out the two Java versions:

a. Java for OS X 2014-001 (version 6, the last supported by Apple).
b. Oracle Java 7 JRE

Could you tell me the minimum Java version requirement for OpenJUMP on Mac OS?

afaik there are no issues wrt. specific java versions on OSX. use anything from java 6 upwards.
