ENVIRONMENTAL DATA CHALLENGE

MDDA is looking for a developer to build a prototype application using new real time environmental data. We are ideally looking for something that is not primarily map-based (as we already have applications that are map based http://demos.citadelonthemove.eu/environment-manchester/ ) but successfully use the data from our wireless sensor network and can be a proof of concept showing use or benefit. Examples might include a visualisation, a native or web app, or something that combines these ideas.

We ideally would like to see something that makes use of time series data, and would be happy for the data to be used on its own, or in combination with other relevant datasets.

A budget of £2500 has been put aside for this piece of work.

We’d like your EOIs by 9AM Friday February 7th, listing what your idea is, how it would use the data, what would be the “product” (App, web app, API, service) and how it would be accessed, and most of all, what would the demonstration show.

We would hope to shortlist next Friday 7th February and may undertake a short telephone interview with the successful developer. Development could begin immediately. Developers will need to become vendors to Manchester City Council.

Prototype or test data can be made available but we will have real time data by Monday 17th February at the latest. The application needs to be ready to demoed by 28th February,  with an extra week for any last minute changes etc.

The application will be showcased in Athens at the Future Internet Assembly in week commencing 17th March.

We will be choosing the application based upon -:

-          Making the case for release of data

-          The benefits of the application or service

-          The possible business case for further development.

This is funded by Citadel on the Move and SMARTiP projects and will be managed by Manchester Digital Development Agency for Manchester City Council. For more details contact Adrian Slatcher (a.sla...@manchesterdda.com) for technical queries please contact Alan Holding (a.ho...@manchesterdda.com

Hi Adrian,

It would be great to see some example data. Is there anything available online yet?

Robin
