Hi all,
I work in Mayor Rothschild's office, and wanted to let you know that the Mayor and Council will be considering the Open Government Initiative at its next Study Session, this Tuesday Oct. 16.  They will be considering a draft Open Government Ordinance, as well as providing direction regarding the construction and hosting of the City's open data portal.

You can see the materials submitted to the Council here:

Regarding the data portal, a key decision before the Council will be whether to construct and host it in-house via the City's IT department (called "Option 1" in the materials), or to contract it out to a service like Socrata (Option 2).  The Mayor is in favor of Option 2 because contractors will provide an API that developers can directly access, and also because our IT department already has a lot on its plate.  He thinks taking Option 2 will give the initiative the greatest chance for success.

It's important that Mayor and Council to hear from the public on this issue, and we'd appreciate your support, as well as any comments you might have about the Ordinance.  The best way for your voice to be hear is either via email before Tuesday, or by providing comments at the meeting itself.  Mayor and Council emails are:

The item is scheduled for about 4:00pm this Tuesday, October 16, at City Hall, 255 W Alameda.  The announcement is here:

Thanks for your support!

James
