IMS Global Learning Consortium is hosting a Summit on Digital Credentials and Badges on Tuesday, February 28, in Orlando, Florida.

The Summit kicks off with a keynote by Sheryl Grant, director of alternative credentials and badge research for HASTAC and Open Badges pioneer. The ensuing program will explore opportunities for enabling better digital credentials through collaboration and interoperability. Expert panelists representing K-20 and non-traditional issuing organizations, employers, and product suppliers will discuss:
  • Using Digital Credentials and Badges for Academic and Co-Curricular Credentials
  • Recruiting and Developing Staff via Competencies and Digital Credentials
  • Using Open Badges in Professional Development
  • Using Open Standards to Connect Educators, Learners and Employers
And the day wraps up with a conversation on next steps for the Open Badges specification within IMS Global, led by Rob Abel, CEO of IMS Global, Mark Surman, executive director of the Mozilla Foundation, and Connie Yowell, CEO of Collective Shift.

This event is being held in conjunction with the IMS Global quarterly member meeting, however registration for the Summit is open to non-IMS members.

In addition, organizations and individuals who want to participate in the success of the Open Badges ecosystem can also attend a special half-day meeting for the Open Badges Community Council on Wednesday, March 1.

The Summit on Digital Credentials and Badges is being held at the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando, Florida. Hotel rooms are limited. The deadline for making reservations is January 27.
