Still have an issue with creating/editing badges/templates on new install

I am still having an issue with a fresh Ubuntu BadgeKit install; after making my way through the self-hosting guide, when I attempt to create or edit a badge or a template, I receive the 500ooops error. So far I have not been able to determine why. Additionally, even though I get the error when I hit "create", if I go back the new object (badge or template) is sitting there waiting for me. I just can't edit it.

Thoughts/ideas?
