Following the successful beta releases of the new Predictive PEC guide algorithm, I'm pleased to announce a new development release build, PHD2 v2.6.3dev2, with Predictive PEC included. PPEC will be included in all our releases going forward, including our next major release.

Many thanks to Edgar Klenske and his team -- Raffi Enficiaud, Bernhard Schölkopf, Philipp Hennig, and Stephan Wenninger -- for this amazing contribution to the Open PHD Guiding project. In addition to developing the innovative predictive algorithm, Edgar and his team persevered to iron out all the gritty details that were needed to make the algorithm production ready for PHD2, things like making the algorithm computationally efficient and handling pausing and resuming and dithering. In these types of engineering efforts the devil is in the details, and I'm especially grateful to Edgar and his team for not just contributing the elegant algorithm, but for working through all the details of getting it usable in PHD2 in a way that works seamlessly in our imaging routines.

I encourage you all to give it a try!

Andy,

Where can we find more details on how to use the predictive PEC algorithm and what it does?

Wes,

No problem, sounds like you got the info you were looking for.

In case anyone else has the same question: click the link in the original post to see Edgar's post announcing the latest beta of predictive PEC.  The part about installing/uninstalling is no longer relevant; you can just select Predictive PEC for the RA guide algorithm, or switch back to Hysteresis for comparison or if you have a problem with PPEC. We have not yet finished updating the User Guide with the information about PPEC, but that will be done before the next release version.
