I am in conversation with the Department of Elections for a major American city and they are looking into providing the following as open data:
Candidates on Ballot
Initiatives on Ballot
Past Election Results, including votes cast for each item on ballot and voter turnout (broken out by polling place vs. mail in ballot, compared against voters registered)

First question: Is the goal for the OCD api to include data formats for all of this above election related data?

Second question: If not, are there other formats anyone can recommend that they consider adopting?

Thank you in advance,

-Dale

Hi Dale,

Have you been in touch with the OpenElections project? http://openelections.net/

Their focus has been on historical results, but their data formats could also work for future elections.

Cheers,

James

Hey Dale--

I think your best bet would be to work with the Voting Information Project.  I'm adding Katie Hale here who would be your best contact at the project.

I agree with James that for historical elections open elections would be your best bet.  Derek Willis, copied, would be a good contact for that work.

+1

For your first two items (candidates on ballot and initiatives on ballot) VIP is indeed a better recommendation!
