Hello friends,
I am doing a thesis on "Throughput performance analysis between CSMA & ALOHA protocols based on the user cases" in OMNeT++. I need to show a comparison between the two protocols. Can anyone help me about the simulation result of omnet++??  Can anyone tell me very specifically how to measure the throughput in omnet++ for the CSMAMac example of MiXiM framework?? Another thing, what else parameters we can use to show the comparison? Anything you know more about omnet++ result analysis (vector/scalar/histogram/bar chart)  please share. That would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Just some random ideas:

I assume you have already checked the omnet/samples/aloha project which compares aloha and slotted aloha with different level of station traffic (PuraAlohaExperiment configuration). Defining throughput for a wireless channel is a hard topic as it's not easy to define what is actually the throughput. A much easier measurable statistic is the number packets received by the central server correctly compared to the bandwidth of the channel itself. So it's more something like the utilization of the channel (which can be calculated in a closed form for aloha and slotted aloha).

An other recommendation: I would NOT use MiXiM for the experiment. (I'm not sure why you choose that). Instead go with the recent version of INET. The IdealRadio module can essentially used to simulate the aloha scenario (and with some little tweaking even the slotted case) and it has all the Mac modules Mixim has + more. Take a look at the wireless tutorial which also starts with Aloha and then switches to CSMA.

But, can you recommend MiXiM if someone is working on MAC layer? with IEEE802.11p ? is there anyway to introduce CAM message in that framework?

Hello Dear Rudolf Hornig,
I have read your post but I need a help on creating a Project .. Can you please guide me how to start and which version will be better?
Here is hte project in detail.:
................................................................................
1. The project need to be implemented in OMNET++ (https://omnetpp.org/
2. In OMNET++, create a WLAN network with the following:
a. 2 wired nodes
 b. 5 Wi-Fi nodes
 c. 1 router
 d. 1 access point

3. Configure TCP data flow for the following 3 scenarios:
a. Wired node-1 to wired node-2
b. Wired node-1 to wired node-2 + Wi-Fi node-1 to wired node-1
c. Wi-Fi node-1 to wired node-1 + Wi-Fi node-2 to Wi-Fi node-3

4. Find out the throughput for each scenarios and report
5. Prepare a report about how the simulation was configured and the result obtained.
...............................................................................

Assalaam,

Muddassir how are you?.
Please i saw your suggestion in Omnet++ group 'omnet++ 4.6 with mixim2.3' am working doing my Dissertation "WSN object tracking by using some AI method", if you have this version of omnet++ please can i have a copy because i search for it but unfortunately i did not find it. and if there is any help you can assist me too, is welcome.

Mualaikum salam...

just download "omnet++ 4.6" from internet. and then download mixim 2.3. after downloading the mixim you can import the mixim file in the omnet++.

u can get help from this video
