Problem while installing omnet 4.6 in windows 8.1

hi i have windows 8.1 and trying to install omnet 4.6 but not able to. When i download and extract the files, I see that the bin folder is empty due to which installation halts.
Could you please guide me how to resolve this issue??

The bin file will be empty because you need to build the software!

Omnet installation (or zip file) includes a complete development environment (IDE) based on eclipse, a compiling system and of course all the software to build omnet itself.

After unzipping, open the file omnetpp/doc/InstallGuide.pdf and follow the directions.

thanks for the help.  I have one more query  "Can installing omnet++ on windows 8.1 corrupt my files or my system in any way?

No, omnet does not have any files outside of the extracted folder and does not modify any global resources at all. Once you delete the intsallation folder, everything is gone...
