I fell down the youtube hole tonight, and happened upon this 2-part-foam concrete replacement... Some of the reviews are hilarious, but it seems really slick. Anyone used it (or something similar) yet?  I feel like it'd be a good alternative for some of the horrible abuses of Great Stuff expanding foam that Makers often perform... (I'm looking at Caleb and his Sandcrawler / R2D2 adventures..)

The subject is total BS by the way... In no way do I believe that this stuff replaces concrete wholesale...

Have not used. Yet.

I don't doubt that it replaces the _volume_ of 2 bags of concrete, but volume is only part of the footing equation. Weight is the bigger component, and I worry about this product giving a false structural hope.

Would be interesting to see what happens in a water saturated soil scenario.

Where the video specifically calls out to NOT use this for structural purposes I'd guess there are some bonding issues or at least some additional testing and certification that they haven't put this through yet.

My dad and I were just talking about a foam mix they were testing for setting powerline poles in the late 80's and early 90's that seemed to work well in testing - I assume this is the home version of this.

Neat find, I'll have to keep my eyes open for it when I need to setup a mailbox or fence post and report back if I use it.

So, this stuff was a bit tricky to find at the store (the package is a lot smaller than it looks, and ships folded in half), but I'll be bringing a bag to Tuesday's meeting to "experiment" on.

Everyone is welcome to participate, and I'm taking suggestions for stuff to try... So far, I'm imagining pouring a "brick" (maybe in a milk jug) and a slab (like in a box lid or something). From there, probably weighing and measuring, followed by drilling, sawing and generally beating on. With a few scales and a floor jack (all things we have), I can probably test its crush strength.

The trick is that it sets in less than 5 minutes, so everything needs to be ready when the mixing starts...

Hey,Science!

Hey Kevin, did you get a chance to test this stuff out? I was thinking about using it to fill a void under my sidewalk. Any idea of the crush strength?

I don't think crush strength is probably it's forte, but it'd definitely fill the gap, if you could get it poured clear in there before it starts to set.  We poured it into a cardboard box, and it was expanding and skinning over before we had it all poured. They actually caution users against not overmixing (in the sealed bag) as it may rupture under it's own pressure.

We were able to significantly damage it with a hammer (like the regular hardware store kind, not the usual [huge] OMG kind).  It's really just a stronger, denser Expanding Foam (ie Great Stuff)...
