"Metamaterial" 3D printing

I don't often post 3D printing stuff, but this struck me as really awesome...


Has anyone played with this concept, either before or after having read about it?

This reminds me of the "squiggly" bracelets we printed on the old printer.

Or a "living hinge" laser-cut in plywood.

For sure a creative use of elastic materials

I wonder how many uses before replacement would be required and how materials would change in elasticity.

Both good points... I suspect that there's still a lot of material science to do on 3d printer filament...
