The new Rasberry Pi looks pretty cool:

The separation of the Compute Module and Motherboard is a nice idea, it's kind of like the Gumstix design, except without the silly pricing.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some Pi Motherboards with support for Arduino shields.

Yeah, I'm sure there will be a compatibility header in no time.  Like: http://www.cooking-hacks.com/documentation/tutorials/raspberry-pi-to-arduino-shields-connection-bridge

But overall, I'd have been excited as a hobbyist if it was a 2+ slot dev board.

Beyond that, stuff like, "harness the power of the Raspberry Pi for embedded applications" tends to worry me.

As long as you look at it as a breakout board/dev kit for a BCM2835 chip I guess it's fine.  But the "harness power of the Raspberry Pi" bit I don't really get.  And I'm hoping that it is not really about using a COTS General Purpose OS for embedded applications - which is, IMO, often a spectacularly poor idea outside of your garage.

When a 2+ slot dev board comes out I'll pick one up.  Until then I'll probably stick to the basic B models. (And maybe pick up an alamode (http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/Alamode-Arduino-Compatible-Raspberry-Pi-Plate-p-1285.html?cPath=122)).

What are the thoughts on the Intel Galileo?

Make sent me one about a month ago and I have 4 more arriving in the next week or so.  I have found it not quite ready to use yet.

Thanks, that looks kind of interesting.

The Edison sounds a bit more interesting to me.

Although, if I was to go buy a new board right now - it would probably be the pcDuino3 - http://www.pcduino.com/?page_id=1960  I think the Android angle seems interesting.
