Just a quick reminder about tonight's meeting. We don't have an outside presentation or anything, but there will be a few housekeeping things along with planning for the Robotics Expo in February, power wheels racing and perhaps some work on the physics kit.

As always, there'll be open shop time both before and after the meeting. Doors open by 5:30. See everyone there!

Is anyone going to be at the space tonight around 8ish? My first metal-casting molds/materials are ready and would like to give it a try in a safe place/around other people. just in case.

Sorry, won't be there, but am curious as to what materials you'll be using for the mold?

Care to elaborate ?

I have some graphite on order, which is taking longer than expected. So I happen to have some Klean Klay which might be a suitable alternative. Willing to test the result of both. Wanting to melt copper and tin for starters. Using a butane torch and crucibles. I am a total newb, but anxious to check it out.

I can help out with casting tonight.

Do you have all the materials you expect to need? What sort of process are you intending to use?

I expect to need better eye protection.

process:
1. glaze the crucible with borax
2. add metal
3. heat with torch
4. use tongs to pour into mold.
5. let cool and quench in water
