I think this study is open to anyone who has a fever and a smartphone - not just UNMC. (unfortunately?) I don't have a fever, and don't meet the requirements.
Not sure if it is a paid study, but it might be interesting.....if you fall within the parameters and decide to participate, I would like to hear how it went.

The study will make use of Microsoft wearable fitness devices.
The UNMC Clinical Research Center is seeking participants in a fever research study using the Microsoft Band, a wearable fitness device that also can be used for a variety of consumer applications during the study.

Students, residents and staff are strongly encouraged to participate in this important study.

The study seeks participants who:

  • Are becoming ill and have or may develop a fever.
  • Are 19 years of age or older.
  • Use a smartphone (iPhone 5 and above or Android 4.2 and above).
  • Can wear a Microsoft Band for 21 days.

"Studies such as this are part of UNMC's efforts to be a 21st century digital academic medical center campus," said Ali S. Khan. M.D., M.P.H., dean of the College of Public Health. "I encourage all of our staff and students with a fever and a smartphone -- or if they have an eligible patient -- to participate. "Let's show the tech world why UNMC/Nebraska Medicine is the ideal partner to test new innovations," he said.

To participate or for more information, contact the Clinical Research Center at 402-559-7685. (IRB#: 697-14-EP)
