OK makers, I'm putting together a post for the Omaha Maker Group blog.   My question to you lot is "What's a good Valentine's Present for a Maker?"   Please keep your response rated PG, and you may be quoted by first name only for the article.   I'm shooting for posting Wednesday mid-day.

Thanks for you help!

Not particularly "makerish", but I've done custom, full-bleed (print all the way to the edges) cards in the past.  Whip up a PDF in your software of choice, print at Office-store-X and cut to greeting card size with their papercutter..  With their fancy color lasers, they're almost indiscernible from a commercial product.

Home-made bath supplies kits are a good option. Materials to make fizzy bath bombs, scented bubble-bath, lotions, salts, cast soap, and candles can provide a fun afternoon for a maker, and also result in products that can be shared or gifted.

I 3D-printed some tulip flowers this weekend.

We cannot have real flowers at home because our cats eat them, then projectile-vomit all over the house.  I would actually be fine with the eating....it's the vomit that is awful.  Anyway, my wife appreciates "crafty" things, so I thought that she would like the fact that I put together a model and 3D printed it for her.

As it turned out, I gave them to her on Saturday (our dating/engagement anniversary) instead of Valentine's Day.  She loved them, and I think they would be totally appropriate for Valentine's Day, too.

"Office-store-x" is soon to be Staples.  Unless you are still fortunate to have a 1-off, mom-and-pop store around.

Do you have the model handy, for those of us who are more lazy, but no less thoughtful? :)

Also, the Office Depot / Office Max / Staples thing is crazy... 14 months to go from 3 to 1...

Fedex Office would suffice as well...

It should be in my Dropbox somewhere.  My model does have some text included that is specific to me and my wife, but it could easily be removed or suppressed in SolidWorks.

"What's a good Valentine's Present for a Maker?"
Project ideas from my significant other for things that she would use. Involvement in the making process would be cool too.

Not exactly for Valentine's day, but I recently got my wife Lastpass... Nothing says "I love you" like not having your SO's identity stolen.

There's probably a witty greeting card to go with that, something about how special and unique she is...

Scan yourself and print a small 3D version. Use that to make a mold. Use the mold to make mini chocolate or gummy versions of yourself.

Warning: This idea can be taken in several directions many of which will be seen as inappropriate use of Makery equipment. Please Valentine responsibly.

Several years ago I met a guy who 3D printed a music box for his wife for Valentine's day. I thought it was an awesome idea. It was rather small, as in less than 3 inches cubed. It was the kind that had several long bars and a wheel with bumps on it and a crank. I think the functional part was a kit and he printed the housing for it and the crank handle.

A long time ago I made welded roses by cutting petals from sheet steel and welding then to a steel rod. They looked awesome.

If any of you have photos of the flowers or bath kits or cards you made, could you send them my way and we'll include them in the post.   And thanks to Sara for editing my post!
