The MagicJack Plus works great and the price can not be beat, since it includes a year of service. Just set it up using a computer and then connect it to an electrical outlet and router and you have phone service. No computer needed any longer. The quality so far has been as good as Vonage and the best cable phones. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the calls. The only negative thing I can say about it is, you have to dial all calls using the area code even when it is a local call. This is a great deal.

Disappointing, MagicJack Blocks Calls

I was in the market for a simple VoIP phone and decided to try MagicJack when the "Plus" model came out. The plus does not require a PC to operate. It is a simple device to setup. The setup process does try to up-sale you and you have to click no about a dozen times. The setup does require you to connect the device to a PC and create an account. After that, you don't need the PC. The reason it gets 1 star is that MagicJack blocks calls to many rural phone numbers. Tech support is virtually non-existent. I contacted them 3 times and NEVER got any resolution on the blocked calls. I only got empty promises. As to why the calls are blocked is a topic open for discussion. Googling the problem turned up the most likely scenario of the "Traffic Pumping" problem. The bottom line is that I do not recommend a product that only partially works and has no support.

Still working well (not great)

I bought this product direct from MagicJack about a year ago. I had no issues setting it up and transferring my old number from AT&T. It did take a week or so for the number to transfer.
It does work pretty well. Sometimes, it will hang or echo, but, only if my Internet connection is busy with other chores. Mostly, you can't tell the difference between MagicJack and AT&T VoIP. I have had no blocked number issues like others here.
I recommend this product only because of the monthly price differential. AT&T was $45/month, MJ is $50/YEAR!(Plus the initial purchase.) This keeps my home phone active. I've had my number for 20 years and didn't want to change it or drop it.
Some other thoughts:
AT&T shows callerID on the TV and has voicemail retrieval online. MJ just emails you a .wav file. Better/worse? Depends on your case. I get email on my smartphone, so, it's better for me. I get caller ID on my Panasonic wireless phones, so, that's no biggie
either.
AT&T has robust customer service. MJ not so much. Do I care since I use cell most of the time? Nope.
Traveling? MJ - take it with you, number and all. This would be ideal for someone with a summer and winter place.
