KVO System & Inheritance

I am trying to implement a “fix” for multiple observation (basically just raising an exception) but it seems like the KVO proxy is somehow a property of the class, rather than instance, as addobserver calls in the superclass show a different proxy object than the subclass. Can someone explain why?
