I Finally got the SignaLink and wires paired up with my Kenwood and laptop. I went and chased down what I think is all the software for FLDigi and I think I'm ready to set it all up and give it a whirl.

I went through and started looking through the configuration menu's and it got really intimidating really fast. Who is a wiz at this and wants to give me a push in the right direction??

Thanks

~Andy

I am pretty good at it,  just explore the menus and get a feel of the program. Mostly you're just worried about the sound card capture and playback and the operator setup

I can help you too.  We were playing quite a bit on 145.580 during May and June.  That might be a good place to play on simplex; possibly catching someone else monitoring.  Post a note with a couple hours notice (if possible) for when and where you will be on.  It looks like you are probably hooked into the 6 pin data jack on the Kenwood, so you can easily talk on the same freq to iron out any problems. A couple of hints that catch a lot of beginners-

1) Be sure the Signalink is plugged into the computer before you turn it on.

2) Double check the soundcard settings in FLdigi for "USB Sound Device". If not remembered by the software, save config, exit, restart and check again. (see step 1)

3) Watch your FLDIGI squelch control (slider at bottom right).  You need to adjust it down close to the noise level.  Requires fiddling when you change modes.

4) GENERALLY most people have good luck with Signalink TX/RX knobs at 12 o'clock.  Maybe RX a little less (look at the waterfall).  Once they are working, you will never need to change them. Delay should almost always be full CCW (shortest delay).  Only increase it for modes like FELD-HELL that make the relay "clack".

It'll work- and it'll be fun :)

Thanks for the help guys. I think after all the YouTube videos I watched last night I am through the worst of the setup issues. Now I just need to get a better feel for the program and how it operates. I suppose till I have free time to meet with some one and work on it, its back to YouTube for now... Weeeee!!!
