I don't understand that part of the web page:

1227
Contributors to projects
3,239,160
Contributors to projects

Why is there 2 numbers for the same things?

BTW -- I wondered on the association type of the "Associated Projects"?
Are those which have similar to NumFOCUS goals but not covered by
NumFOCUS or still somehow fall under NumFOCUS umbrella?

Asking because I can state that many teams within Debian (such as Debian
Science, Python packaging team, etc) has put a lot of work to not only
establish a possibly largest "integrated" Python distribution but also
to contribute significantly back to the scientific Python projects
in testing/fixes/promotion. Thus I wondered if I should/could submit a
PR to list Debian among such projects.

Hello Fred,

I believe the second number should be contributions. Thanks for the bug report.

I think this is a long standing issue. What to call our projects
https://github.com/numfocus/numfocus.org/pull/38 . Essentially the
verbage has been, core for the projects that build the stack, others
that use the stack, and associated to indicate a project that has
similar goals as the NumFOCUS mission. The verbage can be improved
and as NumFOCUS looks to expand to other communities I assume it will.

Well we are certainly happy to add projects that make sense. On the
Joining page ( http://numfocus.org/projects/join-as-project.html ) we
have an email template to the board that will let them know.

I think adding the DebianScience project would be quite useful. We
don't really have the resources to help support the entire Debian
ecosystem. In some sense NumFOCUS is trying to provide a home to the
projects that don't fit into an umbrella organization like Debian, but
the board should at least think about adding DebianScience.

Thanks -- I will keep it mind have I see a project/activity which would
require funding/service.

Thank you for the explanation Andy! I think it clears up the situation
somewhat and let me elaborate since I think I now see where I could have
brought confusion. I was not seeking for any financial support for the
Debian project (although it would be most welcome, happen NumFOCUS
decide to contribute). I was looking really just for an "association"
and a statement of similar goals which are pursued by NumFOCUS and
Debian (scientific and Python) communities. I do consider promotional
activities important, and that is why consider even a mere association
among similar-minded communities useful.
