I just typed a long post and the forum website ate it. Has anyone
gotten iManager 2.7 to update plugins through a proxy, and if so can you
provide detailed instructions?

Thanks.

Service pack 1 for iman 2.7 gives you this functionality

Like Edward indicated, upgrading to 2.7.1 is the easiest way to confugure
a proxy. If for some reason however (for instance if you are suffering
from the problem described in
http://www.novell.com/support/viewContent.do?externalId=7001136), then you
can also configure your proxy by editing the configuration files as
described in the following TID:

You didn't tell us what platform you are running iManager on.
If for instance, you run iManager 2.7 on NetWare, then you use the tomcat
4.1 instructions except that you replace the directory name
sys:\tomcat\4\bin with sys:\tomcat\5.0\bin and tomcat4.ncf becomes
tomcat5.ncf.

I am downloading sp2 now.

I tried the instructions in that TID and another "Technical Tip" until
my eyes were about ready to bleed, but with no good result. In that
TID, for instance, are instructions for tomcat3 and 4 and OES, none of
which I am using. I tried the OES instructions but was unable to get
anything working.

I also tried instructions I found on the net to try to provide the
proxy username and password but they didn't work either.

shutdown tomcat. Delete /var/opt/novell/tomcat5/logs/catalina.out
start tomcat
wait a few minutes and post the content of catalina.out here please

Did you undo all your changes you've made previously ? I've configured
iManager quite a few times successfully to use a proxy (using sp1).

You don't have a restriction on your proxy server by any chance ?

Having installed sp2 and configured the proxy settings through iManager,
we still can't contact the Novell plugin server. We can't find any
useful trace information in the iManager debug log. Is there somewhere
else we can look to see what is happening with the authentication
against the proxy? The proxy itself keeps a log and isn't showing any
activity coming from the iManager server.

Sorry - missed your post. I'm running iManager on SLES 10.1.

I went to the plugin page and did a "Refresh" to see what it would put
in the log - the "timed out" message appeared instantly.

We didn't undo any changes, but to just see what would happen on another
box I also installed sp2 for iManager. On this box I got a more
revealing error:

I wrote a little java program and I was able to bind a Socket to the
proxy without getting a connect exception, from the same server. I
don't think the credentials are even being tested at the point that a
Socket connect is being refused.

Ideas?

Credentials ? Did you try this on a server with iManager 2.7.1/2.7.2 ?
Or are you referring to reconfiguring tomcat manually ? The imanager
plugin doesn't allow you to specify credentials

I beg to differ. Maybe I am misunderstanding the meaning of the word
"username", "password", or "credentials", but I don't think that I am.
