I currently study Computer Science with Games Technology and thought I would do something a bit different for my final year project, the project is as follows:

Create a device that logs your commute in terms of location, speed, acceleration and orientation.

To do this I plan to combine a GPS module with an accelerometer using the arduino uno. This data will then be displayed in the accompanying software showing interesting stats/route on google maps and if I have time a gimmicky 3d replay of how you moved throughout your cycle (steep banks etc).

Right now I am just getting use to using the arduino as this is the first time I've really touched on hardware so its been a steep learning curve.

Do any of you recommend specific outlets to buy your components as I'm having a bit of a hard time finding them!

Thanks in advance hopefully see you at the next meet up!

Hey, sounds like an awesome project. I think there's a group order page for the whole space on the wiki.

But as an individual buyer I've used RS components a lot http://uk.rs-online.com/web/ and cool components http://www.coolcomponents.co.uk/catalog/index.php or there's always the ubiquitous http://www.sparkfun.com/ (better selection but US based)

cheers, K
