Hello Norwich Hackers

Our next meetup will be on Monday 30 March at the Men's Shed in Pitt Street, 7pm for 7.30pm start. Toby will bring his home-built CNC router to run a demo and talk about how he built it and what he can do.

It will also be an opportunity to meet the people at Men's Shed and for them to meet us as we are looking into the possibility of having a longer term regular Hackspace session there.

Because there is Taiko drumming in the building till approx 7pm we will start at approx 7.30 to give them time to finish.

The Men's Shed is run by Menscraft, a CIC set up to help address men's issues and to offer support for men and boys in parenthood, general well-being and passage into manhood. The Shed is one of their projects and has occupied a large, flexible space in Pitt Street since January. They have worked hard on the space and it is already equipped with woodworking and metalwork machinery and tools and some electronics

We believe that there is a big overlap between Men's Shed, Menscraft and Norwich Hackspace and that we can add value as well as develop a Norwich Hackspace community so want to investigate whether we can be lodgers there. If we all decide it is a good fit it could get us started with a regular place to meet. Menscraft have specific aims that are primarily to provide for men but we think that is is viable to operate mixed gender hackspace sessions within their schedule.

So please come along on 30th and meet the Men's Shed guys plus find out all about small scale CNC.   This session is free although donations appreciated.

How to find Men's Shed.

It is easy to find once you know where you are looking! On Pitt Street, near Anglia Square and right next to the roundabout on the ring road and directly opposite the framing shop and Fitt Signs, there is a metal five bar gate leading to a small yard. The Men's Shed is on the right (Print to the People on the left). There is an entrance door towards the back of the yard - we will put a sign up or a balloon.

The best places to park are opposite in the Frame Shop area, or outside Fitt Signs. You can also park in Anglia Square or Edward Street, or just behind the Men's Shed if you go down the slip road behind the Health & Safety clothing shop just before the flyover. In fact there is tons of parking only a short walk away. Or walk or cycle.
