Hi, is it ok to bring my teenager (14) to the Hackspace evening meets? I'd be there too. I'm really keen to get him out and spending time with like-minded techy, making types. He's interested in 3d modelling, Python. All sorts. Thanks, Cathy

Absolutely just needed to ensure that you supervise him at all times which you've said you will :)

Is he interested in the Arduino micro controller and/ or 3D printing?

Hello Cathy. No at the moment it isn't possible I'm afraid as under 18s are not allowed in the Mens Shed space. We may be able to offer under 18 access in the future but not now sorry. Marion

At the moment I am looking for someone to run it but it is not looking hopeful at the moment - Chris can't as his baby is due

Thanks all. I thought that might be the case. It would be good to find out if you manage to get some Python sessions arranged. Is there a mailing list for news or shall I just keep an eye out on here?

Keep an eye on this group. We also have a Facebook page and a Meetup group. At the moment we are just waiting hear when we can move into a new space which will give us more control and also won't be as hazardous the Men's Shed which has a lot of heavy and unfamiliar equipment. It will be easier when we move which we hope will be in a few weeks. The sessions we run at the Library (Coding Club) are monthly sessions but Chris who runs them has a baby due on 15 April so can't do the next one and we are going to have a rethink. It is his first child so things may get complicated!

I used to run a couple of after primary-school clubs with https://www.codeclub.org.uk/ and got to teach some Python to 9 - 11 year olds. My current Birdbox project started out as an idea the kids had of logging bird activity with Python and I managed to get them playing around with a few sensors for it. Unfortunately it seems (from what I've seen at least) that a gap exists for high school age children interested in developing electronics and programming outside of the school curriculum.
Sadly I got moved around at my current employer and I've had to stop the volunteering for a bit, but will love to help out as soon as I can find another job!

Do you fancy doing a one-off on 23 April?

I was gonna suggest a one off meeting at one of the venues available to us, such as the library or Epic?

We have a coding club session booked at the Library on Saturday 23 April but Chris Heath (who has been running the sessions) can't lead it this month so we have an opportunity to do something which could involve Arduino and Python but I can't do it, it needs some people to volunteer to run it.

Unfortunately work all day Saturdays and Sundays, and late evenings most of the week. I could possibly do something the Friday 22nd, but I assume it's 23rd or nothing?

Hi Cathy,

We hope to run some beginner Arduino courses and the Hackspace has a couple of 3D printers which members can use (or their sons). When we sort our premises out, hopefully soon, we will let you know and you can come along. Alternatively come along to Pitt Street on your own and see what we are about.

Alan

ps I am not there this Monday but Marion and hopefully the others will be.

I have done a bit of python programming but nothing much on arduino.
I have been concentrating on physical control using raspberry pi and python through GPIO pins, but standard boring stuff should be easy.
Not sure what coding club entails? but might be able to help.
Should be along next monday, so we could discuss it then?
