Pls Kien/ Hoan let me know which account you want to money go to so that my accountant can transfer it next week.So now you know why I can't be there. Hoan is great replacement for my position in the meeting and I wish you and the whole team work out the best for the Alumni association. Do let me know what I can do to support your guys.Graham,I dearly want to go back soon and take part in the meeting, BUT, FYI, I was diagnosed of having bowel cancer on 18/ 3, I rushed to Australia for double checking and had an emergency operation here on 1/4, have just got out of hospital and will have to rest for a while before 12 chemotherapy treatments planing to start in early May. I have not yet decided to have Chemo in VN or Australia yet. My cancer is at stage 3/ 4, still lucky as if 4/4, you simply gone :)

Subject: Australia Awards Alumni Working Group
Dear Alumni
I realise that it is some time since the election of the Alumni Working Group to pursue the idea of a national Australia Awards Alumni Network (AAAN) organization in Vietnam.
The delay in progressing this matter has been due to a number of reasons, but I can now say that after discussions with the recently established Alumni Engagement Unit (AEU) at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) in Canberra and with the new Education Counsellor in charge of Australia Education International (AEI) at the Embassy, it is now time to move forward on the matter.
One key development has been the Embassy agreement that the AAAN in Vietnam should represent both DFAT Australia Awards alumni and the Australia Awards Endeavour alumni and that the two alumni networks should come together in a single alumni organisation in Vietnam. With this objective two Endeavour awards alumni have joined the Alumni Working Group making a total of eight members. The updated list of Working Group members is attached.
The discussions held with the AEU in Canberra indicate that AEU is fully supportive of the directions that the Vietnam AAAN is taking. They support the idea of a national AAAN organization in Vietnam, but are of the strong view that the alumni must drive the whole process and decide what are the most suitable arrangements for an alumni organization in Vietnam.
We canvassed with AEU what seems to us the two most practical options for setting up an AAAN alumni organization:
1. Affiliate with the Vietnam-Australia Friendship Association
2. Become a branch within the Vietnam Graduates from Australia Club (VGAC) which is affiliated with the Friendship Association
AEU were supportive of either option.
We have drafted a schedule for the initial Working Group consultations in Hanoi in conjunction with the Embassy. The schedule envisages a full day in Hanoi tentatively on Friday 26 April, preceded on the Thursday evening by an informal ‘get to know each other’ dinner. The draft schedule is attached. We would very much appreciate your feedback on the schedule.
For those of you coming from out of Hanoi the Australia Awards will arrange and pay for your flights and accommodation in Hanoi and provide a daily allowance.
The date 26 April is tentative at this stage depending on the availability of Working Group members and other stakeholders.
In order to decide on the date so other stakeholders can be consulted, I would appreciate it if Working Group members could indicate by return email their availability on 26 April, and if not available, indicate what subsequent Fridays they would be available.
I look forward to meeting you all at this pioneering step for the future of the AAAN in Vietnam.
Best wishes
Graham
