remove phrases from text

My objective is to remove phrases from text, not just NLTK stopwords.  I have been able to remove single words using a list ;  mystops = ['atlantic', 'equities',' llp']  but have been unable to make  it work with  ['atlantic equities llp'].  Have reserached the issue but have not found any helpful posts.

Suggestions and advice as to how to proceed are appreciated.
