Hello,

Im learning erlang now with the help of introducing erlang and the programming erlang books.

If I done with these I like to make a accounting programm which runs as a webapp.

Can I do this with only erlang and nitrogen.

Hi Roelof,

You can definitely make an accounting program with Erlang and Nitrogen.  Nitrogen is a web framework, and Erlang has the rest of the tools needed to accomplish what you're going for.

In fact, the next major section of our book will include a step-by-step guide for creating a simple invoicing app in Nitrogen. I realize invoicing and accounting are different, but there are enough similarities to help illustrate the necessary concepts.

If you're going through an erlang book right now, keep at it, then when you feel you have a solid grasp of it, jump on over to Lloyd and my book on Nitrogen development: http://builditwith.com/nitrogen

If you have any questions, feel free to ask,

-Jesse

Thanks,

Im now doing chapter 6 of introducing erlang.
Is it better the next book will be programming elixir  before I goto Nitrogen ?

Or can I do this after the introducing erlang book.

Elixir is a different language, and it never hurts to have more information. Feel free try both Erlang and Elixir, though Nitrogen doesn't currently officially support elixir (I do plan to add elixir support).

Otherwise, of you get far enough in the book that you're ready and excited to give a serious project a shot with Erlang, feel free to switch over to our book and get busy!

Ah gotcha.

Everyone's difference in how they learn, but I'd judge it based on how comfortable you feel with the language after Introducing Erlang. I haven't read it, so I don't know exactly, but I'd guess you'd have a solid enough understanding after Introducing Erlang to start building things. If you don't feel comfortable after that, then by all means, Armstrong's book is fantastic.

But yeah, as soon as you feel comfortable, I say start building things sooner than later!

Oke,

Point taken.

Any idea when the part of invoicing app will be ready ?
