Visitors:
Project SEE brought kettles of Concord 4th graders streamed across the orchard and boiled up the platform 1 to 2 classes at a time. Some 350 students and teachers took part, checking out the plastic owl through a scope in the fog, taking weather data, seeing NH Audubon's Barred Owl and Red-tailed Hawk, and spotting a few wild raptors over the orchard. There were 19 additional visitors over the course of the day.

Weather:
Clouds hung low over and around the orchard this morning, obscuring even Horse Hill for the first couple of hours of the count. They began to rise and lift by late morning, and by the second half of the afternoon, the skies were on their way to being mostly sunny. Temperatures rose with the increasing sun, topping out around 70F. There wasn't much in the way of wind, just a faint breeze that started from the NW, then died away altogether for a time only to awaken out of the east.

Raptor Observations:
American Kestrels were moving even before we had visibility. As it cleared, Ospreys and Broad-winged Hawks soared up from every corner. There were a coupe kettles numbering around 20 birds, and late in the day Crawford's Corner seemed to be spitting out speck-y broad-wingeds one to two birds at a time.

Non-raptor Observations:
There were 48 species of birds observed at the orchard today. The sparrow flock was quite active around the mash pile this morning. The Chipping Sparrows have begun to be outnumbered by White-throated Sparrows. Non-raptor Migrants: Canada Goose- 17 Great Blue Heron- 1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird- 1 Blue Jay- 53 American Robin- 75 Yellow-rumped Warbler- 10 Palm Warbler- 1

Predictions:
There's not much chance for sun in the forecast, but if the overcast is high enough to see anything, there should be some birds moving on the 10-15mph ENE wind. It may be a bit raw with temperatures expected to barely break 60F and lots of moisture in the air being blown in from the coast. Hopefully a few Ospreys and falcons will be blown in as well!
