do we still need other plugins on wordpress after it was installed?

On wordpress, we usually use plugins to achieve accessing speed and google score:

I am confused whether we still need using those plugins please?

no need actually, but what if mod misses rewritting. 

sometimes rewriting not works for every request.

I removed all plugins
