A beautiful male just at the opening to Frenchman's Cove 4 kilometer's south of Chance Cove Park along the ocean trail.Pictures on Nfld Birdwatching site,it was a lifer for me and happy to find it independently of any posts, that's how I like to note my lifer's.Fir Cones tree's are completely full of new cones,I seen a Male Red Crossbill checking one out but the male surely realized quickly that it was too fresh to pick at,this was in Renew's.Chance Cove a huge feeding by gull's with what appear's to be sea lance the mini little eel's,some were 6 to seven inches long.

Hello Funkys

There are few spring records and only one potential nesting record that I am aware of for Tennessee in the extreme SE Avalon.

Could you tell me how you got to Frenchman's Cove on foot?

The trail along the coast from the Park appears to disappear at an eroded cliff about 2-3 kms south of the parking lot. Did you take this route?

The other way that I know of is on the old East Coast Road/Trail that requires bog gear.

In short, how did you get there?

Thanks

Jeff Harrison

Yes I did take that route,we just ignored the eroded cliff and continued South.I have done this trail before and we are hardened hiker's.You will always find the trail again ,even if you follow a moose trail just head south and then when going South always veer to the left towards the ocean if you ever feel you are off the route. We loved it.Just when you come out to the opening of Frenchman's Cove he is right there,he was not singing,he was at the bottom of a small spruce and then went straight up to the top of a high Spruce.I will copy and paste my FaceBook post so you can see him for perfect confirmation. This habitat is great for birds no people except hard hiker's.This is very cropped but I felt I had a new bird and kept my distance, once I had pictures I just continued onto the beach,I viewed him for two minutes which is good enough for me!,catch ya later Tennessee.https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1226388060816693&set=pcb.1958391124186289&type=3&theater There were many eroded cliffs dead fall galore but we felt it was an easy trail.

So you are finished the trail, you are at an immediate open spot where you are about to just turn left where you enter Frenchman's Cove beach,he is right there when you look left, only 5 meters away from going over the mini cliff to get down to the beach.

Hi Jeff, both I and a friend will do three separate hikes at different dates to Frenchman's Cove. Our purpose will be to see if we can find any evidence that suggests that a Tennessee warbler is breeding at this site,a GoPro will also be set up later when one would expect juvies to fledge to record a full day at the initial sighting. We will do it for fun.We may go this weekend an early departure to see if the male is at the area sighted but if not sighted it will not stop our quest for the "Holy Grail".Gerard
