One of my Neighbors (Carson Wentzell) had a Male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in his yard on Sunday (April 19 2015) working a set of sap wells in his maple tree. He also saw one in his yard in early May 2014, and another neighbor had one in fall 2013, so a bit of a pattern emerging. Also part of the pattern is that I have missed all of these birds, going to try and set that straight this week!

Also, first Fox Sparrows arrived at my feeder April 18, though a friend had them several days earlier, and I heard a Merlin calling in town on April 19th.

A search of the neighborhood this evening didn't turn up the sapsucker, but I did find fresh, running sap wells in about a dozen maples in 5 or 6 different yards over a radius of ~500m. This included the yard where a sapsucker was seen in fall 2013. This sapsucker does seem to cover a lot of ground so he might be hard to catch up with.
