Hiked around the ponds and trails in the eastend of St. John's this morning. There was not a great deal of activity on the trails or in the ponds.

Muted Swan - Virginia Lake
Belted Kingfisher - Virginia Lake
Greater Yellowlegs - Virginia Lake
Tufted Duck - male and female at Kennys Pond
Greater Scaup - 3 males Kennys Pond
Mallard with young - Long Pond
American Black Duck with young - Long Pond
Northern Pintail with young - Long Pond

Yellow Warbler - everywhere along trails and around ponds
Song Sparrow - Rennies River

I did not see the Hooded Merganser that had been at Kent's Pond over the past few days.

We saw the Hooded Merganser around lunchtime at Kent's Pond. It was hanging out at the far end in the lily pads, head tucked into its wing sleeping. It was in the same location yesterday evening. It can be difficult to tell if it isn't preening.
