I accumulated 5 hours approximately on two back to back days standing in one spot waiting for this bird to show itself unobstructed by the very twiggy apple tree.
During the time I was there, I saw ring-billed and Herring Gulls fly overhead. I also saw several Robins, several Blue Jays, two Grey/Gray Jays, many goldfinch, two ravens, a pair of Northern Flickers, a few juncos, and heard a couple of unfamiliar sounds.
The Northern Mockingbird is a bird that according to a Peterson's Field Guide, does not stay still long. I can now attest to this being exactly correct. Even the times that the mocker would cooperate and land on the grass to peck at the fermented apples that have fallen since last autumn, it was still not a cinch to photograph. But, finally, after about three hours there today, I was pleased with one shot. This one.....
