Was at St. Vincents Beach 06:30-09:00 Friday morning. When I arrived excellent whale, shearwater (masses & masses feeding along beach) and gannet action in the rip tide from the flow of the river. As the tide changed 07:30 - 08:30 feeding slowed greatly and birds started drifting and even flying offshore. But when tide started rising there was a little resurgence of activity. Even when no feeding still LOTS of birds to see within 500 m of the beach.
Some rough totals
Shearwaters - 20,000+ 40% Great 60% Sooty , 5 individual Manx
Pomarine Jaeger, 10-15 subadults
Parasitic Jaeger - 1
Northern Gannet - 700
Kittiwake - 1500++
Large Gulls - 2500++
ST SHOTTS
five minute check off St Shotts. Thousands of shearwaters sitting on water with a river of shearwaters flying east (90% Sooty) Shearwaters to east and west.
