Another 4 p.m.ish visit. Trying out my new camera again, this time I remembered my mono-pod/hiking stick and got some sharper pictures with continuous shooting. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed that the 1st winter Iceland Gull I shot had been banded (right leg) and tagged with a yellow M2 tag (left leg). Who's interested in this?

Herring Gulls c. 100
Gt Black Backs 4 or 5
Lsr Black Back 1
Iceland c. 5 (all 1st winter that I noticed
Black-headed 20+ (several with almost complete brown heads)

Gt Scaup 40+
Tufted Ducks 50+
Ring-billed Duck 1 male
Am Merganser 2 (pair)

Nothing exciting, but it's always different.

You can't go wrong if you submit the data to the Bird Banding Laboratory (banded birds seen in Canada reported there as well as US birds):

Greg Robertson at CWS would be interested in this.

He may well have banded the gull at the lake.

The Bird Banding Laboratory website was down on Friday but it's back up today. Alex Bond has banded some of these birds and seems to monitor nf.birds. He's now at U. Sask.

Now in the UK actually! I've passed it along.
Any bands can also be sent in via reportband.gov
Cheers,
Alex
