Arrest - Disorderly Conduct, (Fighting in Public), Obstruction, Resisting Arrest

On 6/11/14 at 6:37p.m., the Newton Police Department received complaints reporting that several people were engaged in a fight in the roadway near the intersection of Trinity Street and Union Place.

 

Upon arrival, numerous people were observed in the roadway and on the sidewalk.  Initially, it appeared as though several smaller groups were involved in verbal altercations and no physical altercation was observed.   Patrols attempted to separate all the parties involved and diffuse the situation.

 

Subsequent investigation revealed that the altercation began when Lisa Collins, age 33, of Mount View Street, Newton confronted a female for reportedly talking to her boyfriend.  As a result, the argument escalated with Collins becoming involved in a physical altercation with the woman.  Shortly thereafter, both women’s boyfriends’ identified as Pascxalis Karakatsanis, age 32 of High Street, Newton and William Hines, age 44, of Union Place, Newton became involved in a physical altercation with one another.    

 

Numerous other parties were present at the scene but were not charged as they were not directly involved in either altercation.

 

As a result, the following individuals were charged with the related offenses:

 

Lisa Collins:

Disorderly Conduct,                         N.J.S. 2C:33-2a  (Disorderly Persons)

Obstructing Administration of Law N.J.S. 2C:29-1a (Disorderly Persons)

Resisting Arrest                                N.J.S. 2C:29-2a (Disorderly Persons)

 

Pascxalis Karakatsanis:

Disorderly Conduct                            N.J.S. 2C:33-2a  (Disorderly Persons)

Obstructing Administration of Law   N.J.S. 2C:29-1a  (Disorderly Persons)

 

William Hines:

Disorderly Conduct                            N.J.S. 2C:33-2a  (Disorderly Persons)

Obstructing Administration of Law   N.J.S. 2C:29-1a  (Disorderly Persons)

 

Case pending future appearances in Newton Municipal Court.

 

Investigating Officers:

Ptl. John Flanagan. Ptl. Shawn Burke, Ptl. Mahir Kaylani and Special Officer Raul Couce 

 

Assistance was rendered from the New Jersey State Police, Andover Township Police and the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department.
