On 5/5/19 at 1:14a.m., Newton Police received a report of a motor vehicle accident with injury on Sparta Avenue.

 

Upon arrival, investigation revealed that Thomas Corbett, age 26 of Carriage Lane, Newton was traveling eastbound on Sparta Ave, in a 2013 Jeep Compass, when he lost control of his vehicle.  Corbett’s vehicle struck a guardrail before proceeding across the lane of travel and striking a wooden fence in front of 23 Sparta Avenue and two parked vehicles that were unoccupied and present in the driveway.  Subsequently, the vehicle then continued on and struck the residence at 25 Sparta Avenue causing damage to a gas meter and minor damage to the exterior of the residence.

 

Corbett was transported to the Newton Medical Center by the Newton First Aid Squad for a facial laceration that was sustained from the incident.

 

As a result, he was charged with the following:

 

N.J.S 2C:17-3A(2)   Criminal Mischief   (3rd Degree)

39:4-50   Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated

39:4-97   Careless Driving

39:4-96   Reckless Driving

 

Case pending court.
